Block 3A North Access
Thungela Resources appointed Mindset to conduct a pre-feasibility study on the options for accessing the 3A North Area of Greenside Colliery.
Thungela is contemplating mining the 3A North Area of the Greenside Colliery. Subsequently, an options analysis was necessary to identify one approach for extracting the coal from the identified area that can be investigated in detail during a feasibility study.

Mindset conducted a gap analysis on the feasibility study prepared for the Elders Colliery project.
The gap analysis included validating the geological information, rock engineering (focusing on the support arrangements), the ventilation planning and the mine plan and layout.
Further, Mindset reviewed the mine production rates and the life of mine planned production schedule. Mindset confirmed the coal processing requirements, the environmental and legislative factors being considered as well as the planned mining and surface infrastructure. Mindset also reviewed the proposed mining equipment and took part in risk identification and mitigation.

Thungela Resources (previously Anglo Coal) appointed Mindset to assist in planning a way through a graben structure impacting approximately 200 meters of development at its Zibulo Colliery.
The graben is a substantial geological structure that consists of a series of sub-parallel faults with varying throws that effectively splits Zibulo Colliery into a northern and a southern area. Challenging geological conditions were encountered in the southern area and presumed to reoccur in the north.
Mindset's design catered for two roadways through the graben structure, cutting slowly and precisely with a road header.
Mindset's investigation included a rock engineering study to determine the roof support requirements and a ventilation study.

Ingwenya Mineral Processing requested Mindset to evaluate three processing plants.
The evaluation included reviewing information available and conducting a site visit for a physical inspection of the plants.
The evaluation culminated in determining the asset's value when compared to the cost associated with a new facility, fully designed, supplied as constructed, commissioned, and termed ‘market value’ based on current values.
The evaluation was completed in September 2021.

Mining Works Programme
Mindset completed a feasibility study for Sasol Mining on the possible implementation of longwall mining in two resource blocks in the Secunda area of Mpumalanga. The study focussed on first confirming the geological and geotechnical compatibility of the target areas for longwall mining.
Following confirmation of the suitability of the resource blocks for this mining method, Mindset investigated various longwall mining scenarios that Sasol Mining could implement. Mindset specifically looked at the most optimal length of the mining panels, the number of moves between panels, the expected tonnages Sasol Mining could anticipate, and subsequently, the projected life of the longwall mine.
Additionally, Mindset provided Sasol Mining with an extensive list of the mining equipment it would require to conduct the longwall mining, as well as the costs associated with purchasing that equipment.
Mindset also provided a recommendation on the staffing that the longwall would require, as longwall mining would need specialised staffed, trained specifically on the technology used for this mining method.
